No More running

Well It has been a while since I ran. I am just doing a few miles every once in a while. Probably 2 or 3 time a week. Seth and Gabriel ride their bikes. Hyrum and Enoch ride in the double jogging stroller (complements of Wes and Marianne). That has been the limit of my running for the month. Bummer! Tom is working extra hours and this is all I could come up with.
So probably done with running until January when Tom gets done with roll-out. So I am signing out until then.

10 miles uhg!

OK,
I am on track for the half marathon and I must say, this Saturdays long run almost killed me! I ran 10 miles. I ran for 2 hours. Who knew you could actually run for two hours. I was running at one point during mile nine and I stopped running and walked a few steps without thinking. The last mile was up a gradual hill with lots of curves in the road. I am going to have to figure out some way to get a drink along the way, because my tongue was pasty I was so thirsty! My knees hurt a little to get up and down and go up and down stairs today, but other than that I am feeling good. And, thin :) I found a scale in the basement yesterday and it is a little broken so I am not sure how accurate it is, but it said I lost 20 pounds so I am going with it :)What a good little scale!

We are hot and heavy into half marathon training. the 22 of August is my race day in. So fun to pursue a goal!!

Last week

Well,
Last week I ran on Monday. Then Tuesday I pushed a huge executive desk up the stairs and killed my back. On Wednesday I tried to run-couldn't so I walked and I could only walk 1.5 mi. Yuck! stomache sunk!! then I rested Iced and used a heating pad. On Thursday I tried to do Jilean Micheals work out. Try being the key word. I mad it through the warm out and half of the first cycle. I am impressed at the stamina it requires to do that kind of a workout. Friday I rested and Saturday I ran. 7 Miles. Now I slept in yesterday and today. Hopefully I will get a run in tonight.

10K

Well,
today I ran the 10K. It was fun! A beautiful run. Right next to the mississippi-on both sides it was on an island. I just ran at my pace. I didn't push myself as far as speed. I ran it in just about an hour and 20 minutes. So right in time with my 5K. One of our friends-Ryun ran the 5K- he is a super runner. He ran up past me when I had about a mile left, and then he ran down past me when I had about a 1/4 mile left. So about 2 miles in the time it took me to run about 3/4 of a mile. It was awesome to watch him run. I was just amazed! The Human Body has got to be made by an all knowing Father in Heaven. I am so grateful for mine. When I crossed the finish line, there he was. I asked him how fast he had run-18 minutes...Wow! less than 6 minute miles. It sure is nice to have a goal that I can work toward. Next up- half marathon in August. Woot-Woot

Thursday, June 25, 2009

Ok, OK

So, I thought that it might be a little boring someday when I am reading my blog and I read I ran.. I rested...I ran...etc. So I slowed down a little on the blogging. Then I was talking to my sister in law and she asked where my running blogs was. So here I am. I have decided for now to pursue the Marathon in October. This week I ran 3, 3, and 4. Saturday I will run 5 or possibly a 10K, haven't decided yet. I love the creation of the human body! It is an amazing thing. It is a perfect blend of mind, muscle, stamina, calorie input/output. What a beautiful thing. It inspires me to take a anat and phys class. maybe as a block in the fall.
Oh, on Tuesday I was running and a 50 year old muscle man ran past me at-1/4 mile. Then again at 1/2 mile, then again at 7/8 mile then again at 2 miles. So in the time it took me to run 2 miles he had run 4 miles. Incredible! I was again amazed by the human body. I tried to put my feet down as many times as him-as quickly- I could not run that fast. I had so many questions for this guy. How do you run that fast? how long have you been running? how far do you run? is this a routine? are you training? do you have any advice? But alas, I didn't have the guts, all 4 times he passed me :)

Week 5 day 2

50 minutes running done! oh yeah ran 3 miles yesterday too. I said from the begining I am not doing this for weight loss, but I have been at this since March and I have still not lost a lb. even though I am 70 lbs over weight. I changed my mind. I am going to start a proper nutritional diet and counting calories. I do want to be smaller. I think I will wait until I get back from Puerto Rico. I don't want to give myself any unnesacary guilt trips. I also realized today what kind of trainig will go into a marathon. I am just not sure if I have time to put 20 hours a week into training. I haven't decided what to do about that yet.

I ran 7.1 miles so far this week, training only half done for the week.
The fact that I get myself up every morning before 6, just to go run makes me realize that I am a strong person with self discipline. I am happy to know that.
When I first started training, running 2 miles was hard...now when I have 2 miles left I know I can finish. I also feel like I should pick up my pace, but when I do, I start to get a side ache and I don't go as far- I need to read more about this. At the pace I run now, I feel like I could go forever. I am not sure if it gets my heart rate up, but it hurts and I sweat. Sweating is good right? :)

Week 4 Day 4

35 minute run-ran 33. Got home to soon. There was a note on my door- otherwise I would have ran on by for the extra 2 minutes. My neighbor wants me to do here hair for prom. Fun!-That is what the note said...

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Week 4 Day 2

2 Mile run- done...It hurt to run today! I knew I could because I have done it so much, but it hurt every step of the way! I am going to have to do some pilates.

Monday, May 11, 2009

Week 4 Day 1

30 minute run- done.
Felt good, felt like I could go on forever. I love that feeling, almost like your getting bored running. 3.1 miles- hey that is my 5K in the bag! I actually ran by one of the houses that we looked at when we were looking for houses. I didn't realize it was so close to this one-I am so glad that we got this one. It is such a great house!
Hey Al how is training going for you?
We should buy some shirts and think of a good name for our 5K and design our shirts. Then we could put numbers on them and take pictures. 6.2 is Reay Lane down Austin Road, past Carey Lake then down dog alley past the school and onto main, and buy a milkshake at that little resturaunt across from Grandpas- what do yah say?

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Day 4 Week 3

OK, I didn't realize that I haven't posted at all. So for a break down. Last week in Idaho I ran on Monday the 27th. Then I traveled, snacked and slacked the whole rest of the week.
This week I missed Mondays run, but then I ran on Tuesday-3 miles. I rested on Wednesday and slept in this morning. This means I will have to run tonight. I called Al to see if I could back out, but she wouldn't hear of it! This girl is crazy! She wanted to do a 10K on Saturday after her Friday wedding. We decided to do our own little 10K on Thursday before Allison's wedding on Friday, instead. We will give the money to the Humanitarian fund rather than for a t-shirt. So fun! I am glad I have Al to encourage me when I want to take a break!

Day 1-6 Week 6

OK this is 5K week. Monday-Wednesday no running- I was packing and readying the house for the trip. We left Wednesday night and traveled to Omaha. I spent the entire 6 hours eating the chocolate from Toms work desk-so much for following the Word of Wisdom. We drove till 11:30. The next morning-thursday we got up and drove again. On thursday afternoon Seth was acting up so, for his consequence, we told him to get out of the car. Then Seth and I ran 1.5 miles- about 15 minutes. I was proud of him. And he was perfect for the rest of the trip. We got to Utah at 12:30-middle of the night. On Friday we woke up early- and went to the wedding at 11:00. Then we ate delicous food and wedding cake. I spent the whole day in heals. At about 9 pm, we got back home and I ate a huge peice of wedding cake- maybe two ;) Then I had a hamburger. I stayed up until 1 in the morning. I got up at 6 this morning to get ready for the race. Needless to say, I did not do the ultimate prepping for a 5K.
We got to the 5K registered and waited. At 9 we started running. Allison ran with me and I a good time running with her. She was happy and bubbly- typical Al! She is so fun. She told me all about how she met Curtis and dated and kissed etc. It was fun. SarahLynn- We are running a 10K when I come up again. Come join us!! We had a good run. We for sure weren't first, but we definitly weren't last.
So Fun! And I accomplished my first goal. I feel happy with what I accomplished.
Starting Monday here is my new training schedule

Day 6 Week 5

Today I went on my long run. 45 minutes. It felt good! I can totally do a 5K. Which by the way is next Saturday. Here is the kicker, when most people snack to keep them awake on a 21 hour trip I will be following the word of wisdom, so that I don't gain 10 lbs on the trip. I feel motivated.

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Day 4 Week 5

Ran 30 minutes tonight. I just realized that I am not winded when I run, and I don't break a sweat at 2.3 miles. You may be thinking-well no wonder 2.3 miles in 30 minutes. But, I am proud that I can run more than 2 miles after 4 kids and 40 extra pounds. Want a visual. Remember Robin William in his Mrs. Doubtfire body, when I run, I feel like I have unzipped the Mrs. Doubtfire body, and I am just a runner like anyone else. When I am not running I put the body back on.

OK I have to go feed the baby, just wanted to check in

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Day 3 Week 5

Today I ran 2 miles. Note to self- Always take prenatal vitamins. It makes all the difference to me. I notice a huge burst in perserverance when I take them. If I don't, I just feel like I have nothing left to give. I also stretched before I left. I got up at 5:30 AM so I could make sure to get my run in today. It felt really good to get so much done before the rest of the family was awake. I think I will continue to get up that early.

Day 2 Week 5

Should have run 2 miles today, however I didn't have enough day light while Tom was home, so I will do it tommorow.

Monday, April 13, 2009

Day 1 Week 5

Today I was supposed to do a 25 minute run. However, I spent another whole day at work...I painted Seths room and redecorated. When I got all done with his room, I was suprised to see that it was already 6 pm. We picked Tom up at about 6:30, and then I went running when we got home. My whole body was just exhausted. I ran until everything hurt, and I just couldn't run any more, then I walked the rest of the way home. I ended up being gone for about 40 minutes.
On a side note, on the way home I saw an elderly lady taking her garbage out to the road, so I ran and took it out for her. She introduced herself, and asked where I lived. I told her and she said oh your the mormons, right? Funny! yeah were the mormons.

Week 4 Day 7

To day is Easter, and a day of rest, however I was really tempted to do my long run today, because I missed it yesterday. I rested.

Week 4 Day 6

Uhg! Today I worked from 6 AM till 6:30 pm, at which time I realized that I was half hour late for Stake Conference. So I showered quick and went. But, alas when I got out, it was dark. But, so I don't feel bad I am going to list the things I did accomplish. I got up and fed Enoch. Then I took Seth to the home improvement store. We picked up paint, gardening supplies, curtains, and other home improvement items. Then we came home and I fed Enoch. Then I hauled landscaping rock from the backyard to the front yard. I built a little circular garden around the maple tree with the rock. Then I planted pansies in it. Then I painted the front of the house. Then I fed Enoch. Then I set my neighbors hair for Easter Sunday. Then I fed Enoch. Then I planted the window boxes and the hanging baskets. Then I did the dishes and made some dinner. So-it sure felt like I got a lot done, though I felt really bad for not running.

Week 4 Day 5

Rest

Day 4 Week 4 take 2

Well, I got to run after all. We got Tom home at about 7:30, so after I got Enoch to sleep I went for a run-25 minutes.
Just google mapped it -2.3 miles, just another .8 miles and 5 minutes left and I will be able to compete with the best of them in a 5K- ah well.

Day 4 Week 4

Today I was supposed to run for 25 minutes, but there was not that much light in the day before we had to take Tom to work. So I walked a 4 mile block- took about an hour- with the boys instead. Enoch was in the sling, and I was pushing Hyrum and Gabriel in the double-stroller. I am hoping that that will still make my body strong enough to build up the stamina I need for the upcoming race. I am almost 100% sure that I will be running in UT. I havent got the paper work in yet, but I have a place to stay, and Allison even said that she would run with me. That would be so fun!!

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Day 2 Week 4

Well today was the 2 mile run. I started out too fast, and I wasn't able to run that fast the whole time. I had to stop and walk a few times. I must admit running that fast felt good, and I was able to cover a lot of ground-since my legs are so long, and my feet are so big ;) I am not quite sure what the best way to run is, a run-walk or a slow and steady jog. I also haven't decided if I plan to jog the entire marathon, or just run and walk it. My sister in law, Sheri brought up a point I hadn't thought about...Would the Idaho/Utah elevation be a hard ship for me? I don't know however staying up with the pace of the other 5K runners might be a hard ship! I really am pretty slow.

Monday, April 6, 2009

Day 1 week 4

Today I ran 25 minutes. I decided to do the week 3 training, rather than do week two. It adds an extra five minutes to my short runs, but thats ok! I want to be able to do the 5K the week I am in Idaho, since we will be traveling on the original date-May 2nd. There is a 5K in Farmington saturday the 25th of April. It kind of looks like that is the one I will choose.
The shoes felt good.
I love how far I can run in 25 minutes, it feels like an accomplishment!

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Day 6 Week 3

Today was my long run. 25 minutes. It felt good. I ran to the temple and around it, then stretched on the lawn and walked home. It felt good to start conference morning with the calm of the temple. The birds sang all the way home!
I bought running shoes today. Just in time! the old ones were starting to break down. I got a super good deal on them, thanks to my friends recomendation to a store in town!
By the way-I got sized for the first time since I was a little kid. I can't believe it but I am a 12.5 in womens! They suggest buying a half-size bigger for running. So, I bought a size 13-D D meaning wide width! I am not kidding these things look like boats! I remember when I was younger and my feet passed my moms size of foot. My Dad joked with me that he would just let me use his snow shoes, another time he suggested I just wear the shoe boxes, and once he joked about me wearing a pair of canoes! Tonight when I got home with my new ultra comfortable shoes, Gabriel put them on. He honestly looked like he was walking around with snow shoes on. Brought back memories and I had to laugh! It is funny, I have had these feet my whole life ;) and this size of feet for at least 10 years, yet when I where these new shoes, that actually fit I kind of feel like I am wearing clown shoes. I just can't get over how big they make my feet look. But-no more toe blisters for me! Before today I was wearing a size 11!
Yeah for new shoes! even if I do look like a clown!

Day 5 Week 3

Rest

Day 4 week 3

15 minute run-done
Found out we will be in Idaho the week I chose the 5K so I will have to choose another!
I will keep you posted :)

Day 3 Week 2

Rest-and busy!

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Day 2 Week 3

2 Mile run.
Done!
HAlf way through drinking water, Only short amount of time to stretch, as I was making lunches, breakfasts, warming the car, and getting four boys ready.
Freezing cold, long soak in hot bath! Now my muscles feel happy.

I decided that since I am doing a five week training program for the 5K I should do a 5K in five weeks. Otherwise I might keep putting the training off, like I seemed to have done for the last 2 weeks. So, lets see if there is a race May 2nd.

OK Here it is.
05/02/09 The IT5K for Autism 5K Lake Harriet, Minneapolis MN Corey Donovan 952-653-1731 952-653-1701 http://www.autism5k.org info@autism5k.org An event for competitive and casual racers alike, the IT5K run/walk will support families affected by autism and is sponsored by the IT community. Day 1 Week 3

I am once again starting week 1's training program over. This is the final week of Week 1 I think. So, once again I did the 15 minute run. Once again it went well I ran one street farther. So close to the 2 miles! Didn't stretch, and didn't drink water. Gunna pay for that later, just didn't have the time this morning. Now I am off to make cookies ;)

Friday, March 27, 2009

Day 5 Week 2

Today is a rest day. Oddly enough sometime during the day yesterday after I worked out and stretched out, my calf muscle tightened up. I will be working on getting that stretched out and read more about running marathons. Last night I read a pretty inspiring story about a kid who was paralyzed from the neck down, and within a couple of years he was able to walk. Then he decided to take a marathon class. He went and asked the teacher if he could train. Before that point he had only walked with a cane, however he decided to walk from the handicapped spot into the building without his cane-it took him about 20 minutes. The teacher told him to build up his endurance to 30 minutes of walking. His goal was to walk in a 10K. By the middle of the semester he was walking 7 miles-10K is 6.2. So they decided to increase his goal to 10 Miles. Then he decided on his own to increase his goal to a half marathon-13.1 miles. Every one told him no, he should just stick with the ten mile goal. The night before the race this kid changed his mind and decided to do 15 miles. The day of the race he started at the 11 mile marker with 15 miles to go. He walked on through. He finished the race after all of the water stops were closed up and traffic was on the road again. He was hobbling along- dehydrated and dedicated. He finished after-I think 9 hours. If he can I can and so can you!

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Day 4 Week 2

Goal-15 minutes-had to be on the Elliptical again. Tom will be home tonight-hurray. I am looking forward to seeing him, and going for a real run as well. I am thinking of doing week one again, because I don't think you build strength in your muscloskeletal system like you should when your only doing the elliptical as apposed to running. It is a five-week program, so there is plenty of time for this additional training, I just kind of wish I could get off the first week. :)
I also have to be careful because my milk has been disappearing this week. Poor Enoch! He really is such a good and patient baby. I decided to double the water intake. Hopefully this helps, but heavens 2 gallons certainly is a lot to drink!
Also, I had decided that I wasn't doing this for weight loss, so I could still eat whatever I wanted-meaning an excess of junk food. However, I find that after I eat all of that junk-I am not feeling fed. I am still hungry for real food-this has never been the case before with my old sedentary life style. But now I really need the good food. So, I think I will just quite buying the junk, seeing how it does me no good anyway.

Day 3 Week 2

Rest day

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Day 2 Week 2

2 mile run/walk
Done on the elliptical since Tom is out of town.

Monday, March 23, 2009

Day 1 Week 2

I settled on a good program that will work for me. I found it on this site-http://www.marathonrookie.com/
It is under the 5K tab.
I am doing week 1 again, so my goal for today was a fifteen minute run/walk. I didn't understand what a run/walk was, but I found the answer to that on this site-http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/walk_breaks.html
I also found out that you are only supposed to increase mileage by 10% weekly. Good to know.
So the 15 minute run/walk went good. I was able to go about 1 3/5 miles. When I got home I stretched good, but I forgot to drink water. I read that you only have two hours to replace the water that you loose when you work out. I still haven't gotten around to drinking water, and it is five hours later-whew. I better get on that.
Tomorrows goal is 2 miles. and my personal goal is to keep it under 20 minutes!
I love running!

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Day 6 and 7 Week 1

OK, Day 6's original goal was to run for 25 minutes. The "long" run. However, after some ankle pain from the ankle I had surgery on, I asked around. Sara suggested some strength training ice and heat for a couple days. Because I didn't do the long run this week I am going to do week 1 over again. That way I can build up strength in my muscloskeletal system (Sara used that word, I thought I would try it out too).
So I run again tomorrow-yahoo! I Love to run!!

On a side note, my brother in law runs distance. He told me about this super cool watch that he has. It keeps calories burned, distance ran, heart rate, a map of his run, and all kinds of crazy info. He plugs something from his watch into his computer when he gets home from his run. Then he downloads all the info. Uhm...I want one!

One other side note. Every one keeps telling me to get good shoes. I bought a pair of running shoes last year from the grocery store for 15 dollars. These are the only shoes I have ever had that I liked-besides flip-flops. There is a ton of room for my toes and vents on the sides, so my feet don't get hot. I will be sad to give these shoes up. However, this doesn't have to be done until I get my tax return ;) The new shoes I am looking at are $90. The only other shoes that I ever bought for so much were my Doc Martins, I just had to have them!

Friday, March 20, 2009

Day 5 week 1

Today is a rest day. My goal was to read out of a marothon book. I read 2 chapters. I think I will attempt pilates later, if I can keep my kids from thinking I am a jungle gym. There is just something about Mom on the floor that makes you think...climb :) Either way I need to do some ankle rehabing. yeah for the rehab book!

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Day 4 Week 1

Goal- 15 minute run- accomplished!
today running felt good, the distance and time was familiar and simple. I think next time I run this one I will increase my speed- possibly make this a two mile running goal.
No pain! wahoo!
Tommorows goal-rest-Question-How to do this and still maintain a runners metality?
I will fill that 20 minutes with reading about training for a marathon.

Day 3 Week 1

Note to self, rest does not equal gluttony! Yesterday was a day of rest. This is to help repair muscle damage from distance running and replace oxygen and nutrients. It is a day that is just as important as a running day. However I don't think that eating a sleeve of oreos is what is intended for body repair and replenishing. I need to think of things to get me motivated on my rest days.

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Day 2 Week 1

Day 2
Goal- 2 miles running no stopping-met!
Time- 26 minutes-can't believe I did this in high school in half the time!
pain- woke up with slight soreness, started runing with a pain shooting down ankle, pain quickly subsided, later focused on bending my feet and pushing off to avoid knee pounding
prep for tomorrow- rest, whole grains, and water-slish-slosh

Day 1

OK, as a preface. I have been thinking of running a Marathon since last August. Though, I have been pregnant that entire time. Now I am not pregnant and I had my six week check up with the ok to exercise. So now it begins. I decided to do a 5K in June. Then a 10K in September and the marathon next April. I went to the library on saturday and checked out four books. Three on marathoning and 1 on physical therapy. I have also found some pretty great websites for begining runners. My friend Sara Mecham pointed the way to a great website for buying shoes-she is a runner as well. So to speak I have planted the seed now for watering it!
Today I got up to begin day one of marathoning. I checked one more time to make sure I was going to reach goal one, which I had thought was a 15 minute run. I checked and it was 25 minute. OK no prob thats fine. So off I go. I looked down at the watch, when I got to the end of the road, and sure enough I was right on time 12 minutes into the run. I turned around. Half way back I checked the watch to make sure I was making good time, and this was the point I realized I was only 12 minutes into my run. I am not sure what happened oh well. So I ran up the street past my house, then I got to the other end of the street and doubled back. oh well, so the neighbors all saw me run by four times instead of two. It sure felt great to be running again.
The benefits of todays run were, when I got home I felt sore, but terific. I drank 64oz of water. When I drove Tom to work I felt like I was on caffine. I guess that is what they call being high on life.
Pain-I have a sore inner ankle and outer thigh on the right side. The last quarter mile I was favoring it, and I started to get a side ache on that side as well.
Preperation for tommorow- I measured with the car how far 2 miles is. That is the distance I run tomorrow. I ate whole wheat breakfast and snack, and replenished the water lost.
I also checked the distance I ran today-1.5 mile. in 25 minutes-that is almost half as fast as it should be. Good thing I am giving myself some time to train. I will be competitive at a 18 minute 3 mile.
